Chin Implants
In some people the chin may not project forwards in proportion to the rest of their
face. In this situation an implant inserted in front of the chin bone can improve the
overall harmony of the face. A variant of this operation does not require an implant
and is where the chin bone is cut and physically moved forwards and fixed in its new
position (genioplasty). Although this operation can be performed on its own it is quite
often carried out in combination with other facial surgery such as a rhinoplasty
(nose re-shaping) to provide overall harmony to the face. The operation is best
carried out under general anaesthetic and usually requires an overnight stay in hospital.
