COSMETIC SURGERY TRENDS

A survey carried out in association with the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors (BACD) has found that the most popular cosmetic treatment for women is botulinum toxin injections (47%) followed by dermal fillers (31%) and Sculptra (10%).
Botulinum toxin was also the most popular treatment for men (47%) followed by dermal fillers (14%) and laser hair removal (9%).
29% of doctors surveyed stated that improved dermal fillers to treat the face were the biggest innovation in aesthetic medicine over the last five years and Sculptra (26%) and Juvederm Ultra (17%) were selected as the two treatments that had revolutionised cosmetic practices.
TIMELY WARNING ABOUT SUN DAMAGE

Sun damage is the most significant factor in ageing, says new report.
In the survey, 55 per cent of cosmetic doctors cited “sun damage” as the most significant cause of ageing in the patients they see and a staggering 84 per cent believed that sun beds should be banned.
It means that as the weather improves and we spend more time out in the sun we should always remember to wear suncream or a moisturiser with at least factor 15 sunscreen in it.
MOBILE PHONE APP FOR COSMETIC SURGERY

A revolutionary new iPhone application is about to change how people considering having surgery think about the subject.
iSURGEON allows the user to take a photo of themselves and then adjust the image to help visualise what they will look like after surgery.
The app is the brainchild of plastic surgeon Dr Michael Salzhauer who invented it in an attempt to cut down on the time he spent in consultations. “A lot of people wonder what they would look like if they could change themselves,” said Dr Salzhauer. “This will help them find out if they are actually interested and, if so, they can seek out a certified plastic surgeon to follow it up.”
COSMETIC SURGERY AROUND THE WORLD

Breast implants, Botox injections and other forms of cosmetic surgery remained in demand around the world, from the UK to Australia.
Developments in the UK show how the world wide acceptance of cosmetic surgery has grown. The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons noted a 9% increase in demand during 2008 – 2009. Switzerland, Cyprus and Spain actually dominate the top three spots of plastic surgery per capita!
$10 BILLION SPENT ON PLASTIC SURGERY

Americans, in the grip of an economic recession, spent $10 billion on plastic surgery procedures last year – that’s down three percent from 2008.
Breast enlargement, nose jobs, eyelid surgery, liposuction and tummy tucks were all down, with liposuction showing the biggest decline, the latest figures from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) showed.
The ASPS figures showed that females made up 91 percent of those undergoing cosmetic procedures including “Mommy makeovers” involving tummy tucks, liposuction and breast lifts.
