Thread Vein Removal
Thread veins are the fine network of blood vessels which can sometimes be seen just beneath the skin in certain parts of the body. Some areas are particularly prone to developing thread veins – for example the nose and cheeks or the thighs and legs. Wherever they occur they can be a source of great distress because they can be very obvious and mar the appearance of the skin. On the face they can be difficult to camouflage with cosmetics. In other parts of the body such as the thighs or legs, they can lead to embarrassment when wearing short skirts or swimwear.
Treatment of the thread veins is relatively simple but depends on the size of the blood vessels in the affected areas. Large vessels are best treated by sclerotherapy – injection of special agents which obliterate the vessels. Smaller vessels usually respond to laser therapy. Your surgeon will decide on the best options for you during your consultation. Both treatments can be carried out on an out-patient basis. Depending on the size of the area which needs to be treated, a local anaesthetic may sometimes be required. Repeat treatments are often required to achieve the desired result.
